The program employs federal, state, and local officials, and private-sector specialists from many fields to study building performance in response to natural and human-caused hazards. BPAT objectives are to inspect buildings and infrastructure; conduct forensic engineering analyses to determine causes of structural failure and success; and recommend actions that state and local governments, the construction industry, and building code organizations can take to reduce future damage and protect lives and property in hazard areas.
