Disaster Mental Health Services Guidebook for Clinicians and Administrators - Published by the National Center for PTSD, this manual provides a detailed description of disaster mental health services following a community-wide disaster. Sections include detailed descriptions of adminstrative and clinical tasks throughout the phases of disaster. Sections include stress reactions of survivors, helping survivors, helping the helpers, and helping organizations. In addition, factors associated with disaster stress and chronic PTSD are presented. The needs of special populations, for example, children and older adults are addressed. Developing a response team and integrating the team with existing resources is discussed as well as self-care strategies for disaster mental health workers. Lastly, the publication includes an extensive reference list.

Disaster Response Network - Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating psychological disorder that
can arise after any disaster or crisis situation. Those suffering from PTSD can
have trouble functioning in their jobs or personal relationships. The American Psychological Association developed its Disaster Response
Network (DRN) in response to this need. Over 1,500 psychologist volunteers
provide free, onsite mental health services to disaster survivors and the relief
workers who assist them.

Mental Health Workers Without Borders (MHWWB) - The MHWWB is an international, not-for-profit, nongovernmental
network of activist mental health workers of all types and professions
whose aim is to provide psychosocial assistance following natural and
human-caused disasters and to provide technical assistance to
developing countries so that they can provide treatment and
psychosocial rehabilitation for their citizens. MHWWB encourages
family- and community-based approaches to mental health therapy, while
respecting cultural variation, drawing on local resources and
traditions, and emphasizing community empowerment. The MHWWB web site
