The Institute commenced its work at laboratories on the University campus and in the Abuyama Seismological Observatory in Takatsu- ki City, with three research sections and sixteen research staff members. At present the scale of its organization has been enlarged so that it has 16 research sections and 11 attached facilities, while more than one hundred research staff members are working in the laboratories and observatories.
